BIOGRAPHY
Emily Smith is an attorney in LNL’s litigation practice group. She focuses her practice primarily on civil litigation, complex commercial litigation, and business litigation matters.
Prior to joining LNL, Emily worked as a judicial attorney for the Twelfth District Court of appeals. She then went on to clerk for Justice Joseph T. Deters of the Ohio Supreme Court for the duration of his appointment term. In her work at Ohio’s appellate courts, Emily learned how important it is for attorneys to properly frame legal issues and clearly advocate for their client’s needs. Emily views open and clear communication with her clients – and the courts – as a key component to success.
Emily earned her Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Capital University Law School. While a student, she worked as an extern for the Honorable Michael H. Watson for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the Honorable Judge Elizabeth Gill of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Domestic Relations and Juvenile Division, and Justice R. Patrick DeWine of the Ohio Supreme Court. She also participated in Capital’s Moot Court program as an advocate, receiving awards for best oralist and best brief in various competitions. She became the Chief Justice of the program in her third year of law school, and after graduating, volunteered as a coach. In addition, Emily worked as both a staff member and note editor on Capital’s Law Review. Emily resides in German Village with her husband and two daughters.
